Anastasia, the movie

The movie Anastasia is an animation movie, produced in 1997 by Don Bluth and Gary Goldman. It was nominated for two Oscars and one Golden Globe and it won eight other prizes. Fox Interactive also released a video game, on PlayStation 1, entitled “Anastasia: Adventures with Pooka and Bartok”.

The story begins in 1916 in the old Russian empire, in San Petersburg, where people are celebrating the tricentenary of the Romanov dynasty and the Empress Marie gives a present to her 8-year-old granddaughter: a musical box with a special melody.

Rasputin makes a revolution against the Tsar and his family. Dimitri, a little boy, saves Anastasia and her grandmother. Then they go to the train station and the grandmother leaves but Anastasia cannot get on the train, because she hurts her head. Ten years later, Marie offers a reward to find Anastasia and Dimitri wants to mislead Marie with another girl and says that she is the real Anastasia. They travel to Paris and Dimitri teaches her how to be a real princess, and all the things she needs to know. But listening to the music of the music box Dimitri realizes she is Anastasia...

The soundtrack of this movie was composed, co-orchestrated and conducted by David Newman, and the songs were written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. All these songs were released on CD and audio cassettes on October 28th 1997.
